Stainless steel is almost always TIG welded because the process gives the welder precise control over heat input. Too much heat causes carbide precipitation in the heat-affected zone, which creates a band of reduced corrosion resistance adjacent to the weld. Too little heat produces incomplete fusion. TIG welding on stainless also requires proper back-purging with argon to protect the inside of the weld from oxidation.
CMV Fabrication applies these procedures to every stainless steel weld. The result is a joint that maintains the base material's corrosion resistance and meets both structural and cosmetic requirements.
