Steel, aluminum, and stainless steel respond differently to cutting, forming, and welding, and those differences affect how precision tolerances are achieved. Steel is the most predictable material for forming because it exhibits consistent springback behavior. Aluminum requires adjusted bend allowances to compensate for greater springback and is more sensitive to surface damage during handling. Stainless steel work-hardens during forming and generates more weld distortion than carbon steel under equivalent heat input.
CMV Fabrication adjusts its process parameters by material type on every precision project. Laser speed, forming allowances, weld heat input, and fixturing approach are all calibrated to the specific material being fabricated. The material recommendation for a given project depends on the part's structural requirements, its operating environment, and the tolerances the design specifies.
