CMV Fabrication produces prototypes in the same material specified for the production version. If the final part calls for 14-gauge stainless steel, the prototype is built from 14-gauge stainless steel. This ensures the prototype accurately reflects the weight, rigidity, weld behavior, and surface finish of the production part. Material substitution during prototyping saves cost on the test unit but introduces the risk of hiding material-specific fabrication issues until the production run
.If the production material is expensive and the buyer wants to validate geometry before committing to it, CMV Fabrication can discuss what a material substitution will and will not reveal about the final design. That conversation is part of the quoting process, and it helps the buyer make an informed decision about how much validation the prototype needs to provide.
